- NEED IN SITU PHOTOS. Nelson's sedge has been vouchered in the subalpine and alpine of the Watershed, but only in the west mountain ranges. Instances are Antero Peak (Saguache Co, 1998), Fels Plateau (Conejos Co, 2003), and Stony Pass (San Juan Co, 2022). The habitat of Carex nelsonii sometimes includes steep, rocky slopes. Distribution in the lower USA states centers in the Rockies of Colorado, with uncommon occurrences in Wyoming and northeast Utah. Save for a few New Mexico records from Vermejo Park Ranch (Taos Co, 2007, 2014), the Watershed locations would be the only ones in the Rio Grande drainage.
