NEED IN SITU PHOTOS. Cloud sedge has been recorded fairly frequently from the western mountain ranges of the Watershed, but not yet from the eastern. Note that Allred et al. (2020) documents Carex haydieniana from the Sangre de Cristo range just south of the Colorado border, so the species may be expected in the Culebras of the Watershed. Typically C. haydeniana grows on rock tundra slopes, but a number of specimens, labelled "Carex haydeniana" and vouchered from the Watershed, were found in subalpine woods and even in lower vegetative zones (e.g. one mile south of Poncha Pass with Artemisia, Populus, Picea, and Pseudotsuga (Saguache Co, 1999). The USA distribution is diffuse locations in the Rockies and the Intermountain region of the West. The species follows the Rio Grande drainage only two counties into New Mexico, no farther down stream.
