- NEED IN SITU PHOTOS. Heavy-fruited sedge has been vouchered only once from the Watershed, in the La Botica site above La Jara Creek (Conejos Co, 2017). The identification is accepted by Ackerfield (2022) but not by BONAP (2025). Carex gravida is largly a species of the Great Plains and upper Midwest in the lower USA states. The species has been recorded from New Mexico in the northwestern corner of the state, not in the Rio Grande drainage. So the Conejos Co record of the Watershed may be the only one, so far, in that drainage.
