- NEED IN SITU PHOTOS. White mountain sedge has been vouchered less than ten times from the Watershe, but from both sides of the Valley. It grows in pinyon-juniper, ponderosa, or alder habitats in the foothill or lower montane zones. A typical location is the La Botica mesa on La Jara Creek (Conejos Co, 2017). The distribution of Carex geophila in the lower USA centers in eastern Arizona and western New Mexico, with spotty locations in central Oregon and southern Utah. The species follows the Rio Grande drainage through New Mexico and down to the Big Bend country of Texas. Note that BONAP shows only Alamosa and Saguache counties for Colorado, apparently not accepting the voucher determinations from Costilla, Rio Grande, and Mneral counties.
