- NEED IN SITU PHOTOS. In the Watershed, blackroot sedge has been collected often from all mountain ranges, east and west, almost always in subalpine or tundra meadows. Only a few vouchers come from lower elevation; for instance, a specimen found in volcanic substrate on Dry Gulch Road west of the town of Saguache (Saguache Co, 1999). Carex elynoides is spread over all USA lower states except for California, Oregon, and Washington. It follows the Rio Grande drainage through New Mexico but not into Texas.
