- NEED IN SITU PHOTOS. Star sedge has only one voucher from the Watershed: in the meadow surrounded by conifer forest containing Twin Ponds northwest of Elwood Pass (Rio Grande Co, 1996). BONAP (2025), however, also shows Conejos, Hinsdale, and Archuleta counties, so there must be other records of Carex echinata in the Watershed. The species has also been collected from Rio Arriba and Santa Fe counties of New Mexico, but so far it is not recorded on down stream in Texas. C. echinata is present in Europe, Canada, the northern half of eastern USA, the three Pacific coast states, and scattered locations in other Western states.
