- NEED IN SITU PHOTOS. Judging from vouchers, softleaf sedge has a wide-spread presence in the Watershed, having been collected from all mountain ranges except for the Culebres. The typical habitat for Carex disperma is montane and subalpine coniferous stream sides and seeps. C. disperma is a fairly common sedge in similar habitats of all Western USA states and eastward across the northern fourth of the nation from the Great Lakes to Maine. The species follows the Rio Grande drainage into the top three counties of New Mexico but no farther down stream. Incidentally, the specific epithet refers to the tendency of the species to have only two seeds per seed head.
