- NEED IN SITU PHOTOS. In the Watershed, Holm's sedge has been collected rather often, from mountain ranges on both sides of the Valley, although the preponderance of vouchers come from the west side of the Valley (and a greater density of occurrences lie in the San Juan River drainage west of the Continental Divide). Carex chalciolepis is a higher elevation sedge, growing in mesic meadows, by streams, and on rocky slopes up into the tundra. Its USA distribution is restricted to similar locations scattered in Nevada, Utah, Arizona, Montana, Colorado, and New Mexico. The species does not follow the Rio Grande drainage into Texas. Note that BONAP treats this taxon as Carex heteroneura var. chalciolepis—although it is given species status by FNA and POWO.
