NEED IN SITU PHOTOS. Arapahoe sedge has been vouchered from only four locations in the Watershed: near Trinchera peak (Costilla Co, 1998), three miles east of La Manga pass (Conejos Co, 1985), along the Continental Divide (Hinsdale Co, 1988), and on the South Fork of Rock Creek (Rio Grande Co, 2004). Habitat for Carex arapahoensis in the Watershed is mesic open spaces in coniferous woods or on alpine slopes. According to POWO and BONAP (2025) the world distribution is restricted to the Rockies of Wyoming and Colorado and the southeast corner of Utah. So the species has not been recorded from New Mexico, and the occurrences in the Watershed are, to date, the only ones from the Rio Grande drainage.
