- NEED IN SITU PHOTOS. Western quillwort has been vouchered only once from the Watershed, the specimen found submerged in a small pond north of Green Lake (Conejos Co, 1988). Ackerfield (2022) accepts this determination but BONAP does not (2025). The difference of Isoëtes occidentalis from I. bolanderi can be told only by inspection of the megaspore. The USA distribution of this uncommon quillwort centers mainly in the West coast mountain ranges, with rare and isolated occurrences in Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Arizona, and Colorado. If the Conejos Co location is accurate, it would be the only one in the entire Rio Grande drainage.
