- NEED IN SITU PHOTOS. Common moonwort (usually under the old name "Botrychium lunaria") has been vouchered less than ten times from the Watershed. Four records are from Vermejo Park Ranch in the south Culebras (Costilla Co, 2008-2009), the rest from the South San Juans: near Wolf Creek pass (Mineral Co, 1996; Saddle Creek trail (Conejos Co, 1995); near Bear Lake (Conejos Co, 1988); east of La Manga pass (Conejos Co, 1986). The habitat is typical of moonworts: disturbed ground such as old clear cuts, or relatively open gravelly slopes. The USA records are found, uncommon and scattered, in all Western states, and across the Great Lakes and northern New England. The species follows the Rio Grande drainage only into Rio Arriba and Taos counties of New Mexico (bordering the Watershed).
