- NEED IN SITU PHOTOS. Montana wheatgrass has been vouchered only twice from the Watershed, both by Jeanette Flaig, once southwest of South Fork in "alpine meadows ascended to ridge summit" (Rio Grande Co, 2003), once 52 air miles SSW of Del Norte on an "alpine peak summit in alpine meadow" (Conejos Co, 2004). These occurrences are acceped by Ackerfield (2022) but not Shaw (2008), who does not find Elymus albicans in Colorado above the upper montane. According to BONAP's distributional map of the species in the USA, these two locations would be the only ones lying in the Rio Grande drainage, lying farthest south of a species range that centers in Wyoming and extends, very spottily, up to the Canadian border.
