- NEED IN SITU PHOTOS. Rough barnyard grass has been recorded only once from the Watershed, collected by Frederick E. Clements with the county given as "Conejos" and the locality as "Alamosa." You choose. The elevation given (7,498') fits the area around town of Alamosa, but also many locations in Conejos Co.. According to Allred et al. (2020), Echinochloa muricata grows in "moist to wet swales and seeps, disturbed ground, roadsides." Note that the species has been recorded from Taos Co, New Mexico, bordering Conejos Co of the Watershed. It follows the Rio Grande drainage through New Mexico and on down Texas, spottily, to the Gulf of Mexico. It has been recorded from every state of the USA, considered adventive in the Pacific Northwest.
