- NEED IN SITU PHOTOS. Parry's oatgrass has been vouchered a fair number of times from the Watershed, from both sides of the Valley. The usual habitat for Danthonia parryi is open meadows and sparse woodlands (ponderosa, alder, spruce) at the montane level. South central Oregon and northern New Mexico is the center of the USA distribution, with scattered locations following the Rockies up to the Canadian border. The species follows the Rio Grande drainage through two thirds of New Mexico, no farther down stream
