- NEED IN SITU PHOTOS. The exotic yellow bluestem has been recorded only once from the Watershed, on the Colorado College Baca campus (Saguache Co, 2005). Bothriochloa ischaemum was introduced into the USA to improve pastures and stabilize roadsides, but it has often escaped. In Texas it has spread and taken over better grassland in some areas. The USA distribution is primarily the southern third of states, especially Arizona and New Mexico. It follows the Rio Grande drainage through New Mexico (including Rio Arriba and Colfax counties, bordering the Watershed), and carries on through Texas to the Gulf of Mexico.
