NEED IN SITU PHOTOS. So far in the Watershed, Torrey's rush has been collected from the Upper Basin, found on river floodplains, by ponds, in stabilized sand dunes, on alkaline playas, on ditch banks, etc. The one exception is a specimen collected two miles east of La Manga pass (Conejos Co, 1984), a determination that should be vetted since the elevation (9,400') lies above the upper limit given for the Juncus torreyi in Colorado or New Mexico (around 8,500'). In the USA, J. torreyi is one of the most wide spread of rushes, found in all states except for South Carolina and Florida. The species follows the Rio Grande drainage solidly through New Mexico and on down stream just beyond the Big Bend region of Texas.
