- NEED IN SITU PHOTOS. In the Watershed, toad rush has been documented occasionally only in the Upper and Lower Basins, with just a few collections from slightly higher elevation (e.g., junction of Hwy 160 and Forbes Park Road, Costilla Co, 1984). The habitat of Juncus bufonius is drying margins of ponds, banks and sandbars of creeks and rivers (especially the Rio Grande). With a world-wide distribution, in the USA the species has locations in every state. It follows the Rio Grande drainage through New Mexico to a little beyond the Big Bend region of Texas.
