NEED IN SITU PHOTOS. Baltic rush has been collected often all around the Watershed. It occupies mesic habitats from basin to subalpine: wet meadows, river and pond sides, ditches, etc. Juncus balticus tolerates alkaline soil, and is available from garden centers for ornamental use. The central USA range is all Western, upper Great Plains, Great Lakes, and northern New England states. The species runs throughout the Rio Grande drainage in New Mexico, with a few locations in far western Texas. Note that this taxon used to be treated as a variety or subspecies of Juncus arcticus, but that species is now relegated to Canada, Greenland, and the Euroasian arctic.
