- NEED IN SITU PHOTOS. In the Watershed, fowl mannagrass, perennial and cool-season, has been vouchered often, with most of the locations in the western mountain ranges. Glyceria striata prefers mesic habitat—growing in marshy areas and along streams and forest seeps. One location was standing water: Elk Springs, west of the Great Sand Dunes NPP (Saguache Co, 1999). The species has the largest USA distribution of all Glyceria, with locations in all states and the fewest occurrences in the Deep South. G. striata follows the Rio Grande drainage through New Mexico to the western tip of Texas, no farther down stream. Note that distinguising G. striata and G. elata can be problematic.
