- NEED IN SITU PHOTOS. American mannagrass (native to the USA and introduced in Europe) grows in moist Watershed habitats—alongside irrigation canals and creeks, rivers, and ponds. Glyceria grandis has been vouchered fairly often from the Watershed, from both basins and from the San Juans and the Cristos at lower elevations. It is the largest of mannagrasses in the Valley. The USA distribution is extensive, across the entire northern third of the nation and down the Rockies to Colorado and New Mexico. The species follows the Rio Grande drainage through most of New Mexico but not into Texas.
