NEED IN SITU PHOTOS. Escaped common or commercial wheat has been vouchered only twice from the Watershed, once from a farm five miles south of the town of Alamosa (Alamosa Co, 1953) and once from the Conejos River, 22 miles west of Antonito (Conejos Co, 1986). Today, however, escapes of Triticum aestivum can be readily seen by wheat fields. Shaw (2008) says that they are just "infrequently collected." Note, also, that T. aestivum—commercial, annual, and cool-season—will not persist. BONAP shows records from every state of the USA. The species follows the Rio Grande drainage through New Mexico, with a few occurrences down through Texas to the Gulf of Mexico.
