- NEED IN SITU PHOTOS. Intermediate wheatgrass, introduced from Euroasia, has been vouchered from both sides of the Watershed, from roadsides and nearby forest openings in the montane zone. Found most commonly beside roads and fields, Thinopyrum intermedium spreads into nearby natural habitats, especially into sagebrush clearings. It has been used for stabilization and revegation projects. It tolerates alkaline soils, although there is little evidence for that in the Watershed. In the USA, the species has often been recorded from all Western states, with a scattering of locations in the Great Plains. It follows the Rio Grande drainage through New Mexico, with a few occurrences in Texas west of the Big Bend region. Note that Allred et al. (2020) treat this taxon as Elymus hispidulus subsp. hispidulus.
