- NEED IN SITU PHOTOS. In the Watershed, creeping wildrye has been vouchered fairly often from meadows and saline flats of the Basins. The few higher elevation locations (e.g., Wason ranch south of Creede, Mineral Co, 1938) may be planted. Leymus triticoides was sometimes seeded to stabilize irrigation and creek banks because of its dense rhizomatous root system. The USA distribution centers around the central and southern Western states. In a scattered fashion, the species follows the Rio Grande drainage through New Mexico down nearly to the Big Bend country of Texas but no farther down stream.
