- NEED IN SITU PHOTOS. Perplexing needlegrass has been just that, often confused with Eriocoma nelsonii (see Allred et al., 2020) and probably other Eriocoma species. Shaw (2008) shows Conejos and Costilla counties in the Watershed, but there are no Waterhed vouchers for Eriocoma perplexa in SEINet. Its usual habitat is dry slopes in montane pinyon and ponderosa communities. The USA range centers on New Mexico, with locations in northeast Arizona, southern Utah, and southern Colorado. The species follows the Rio Grande drainage through all of New Mexico into the western tip of Texas, no farther down stream.
