- NEED IN SITU PHOTOS. Nuttall's alkali grass has been recorded rather often from the two Basins of the Watershed, usually by alkaline or saline playa edges, pond and stream sides, artesian wells, irrigation ditches, etc. A few vouchers come from higher elevations on stream sides and mesic slopes in the montane (e.g., Saguache Creek). Puccinellia nuttalliana is present in all USA Western states and the northern Great Plains. It follows the Rio Grande drainage halfway down New Mexico but no farther down stream.
