- NEED IN SITU PHOTOS. In the Watershed, Sandberg's bluegrass has been vouchered often, usually at higher montane or subalpine levels, in all mountain ranges. Poa secunda, perennial and cool-season, prefers dry mountain grassy meadows but can occupy forest openings and reach up into dry alpine slopes. In the USA P. secunda is a very common grass found in nearly every Western county. It follows the Rio Grande drainage two-thirds of the way through New Mexico, no farther down stream. Allred et al. (2020) say that P. secunda is a complex of as many as 45 apomictic forms, "most of which have been described as species."
