- NEED IN SITU PHOTOS. In the Watershed, marsh bluegrass prefers high montane or subalpine mesic habitats such as marshes, creek and lake sides, wet meadows, etc. Poa leptocoma has been vouchered mainly from the South San Juans, with three locations on the east side of the Valley: Rito Alto trail (Saguache Co, 2009), headwaters of Sangre de Cristo Creek (1900), and an unnamed peak near Vermejo Park (Costilla Co, 2008). The low-level occurrence near Mogotes (Conejos Co, 1999) needs confirmation. Poa leptocoma is difficult to tell from P. reflexa, with which it is often sympatric. The USA distribution for P.leptocoma is all Western states. In scattered high-elevation locations the species follows the Rio Grande drainage through New Mexico, but not into Texas. Note that Shaw (2008) indicates presence of the species in all Watershed counties, and designates it as "rare."
