- NEED IN SITUE PHOTOS. Arctic bluegrass has been collected from above the timberline, and sometimes just below it, in every mountain range of the Watershed, although mostly from the west side. Poa arctica inhabits talus slopes, moist meadows, and rock ledges. Circumboreal, in the USA the species follows the Rocky Mountains from the Canadian border down through Colorado to the northernmost counties of New Mexico.
