- NEED IN SITU PHOTOS. In the Watershed, alpine bluegrass is common, forming communities at subalpine and alpine vegetative zones, sometimes descending to the montane (e.g. Humphrey's Ranch, south of Creede (Mineral Co, 2014). Poa alpina has not yet been recorded from the south Sawatch range, but occurs in all other ranges of the Valley. In the USA, the species follows the Rocky Mountains from the Canadian border down to the northernmost counties of New Mexico. It follows the Rio Grande drainage no farther down stream.
