- NEED IN SITU PHOTOS. Patterson bluegrass grows in the tundra, often in the melt of snow beds. In the Watershed, Poa abbreviata has been vouchered, for instance, from the slopes of California Peak (Alamosa Co, 1999), Kit Carson Peak (Saguache Co, 1999), and Methodist Mountain (Saguache Co, 1999)—all in the north Cristos; and from Bowers Peak (Saguache Co, 2004), Bonito Mountain (Rio Grande Co, 2023), and Osier Mountain (Conejos Co, 2004)—all in the eastern San Juans. In the USA, the species has been recorded from all Westerns states save Arizona and New Mexico, although it is rare in the Pacific Coast and Great Basin states. The Watershed occurrences are the only ones in the Rio Grande drainage.
