- NEED IN SITU PHOTOS. Hard fescue is an exotic that has been used for erosion control and pasture reseeding. Festuca trachyphylla has no vouchers from the Watershed, but Shaw (2008) shows Conejos Co and BONAP (2025) shows Conejos and Costilla counties. BONAP indicates scattered occurrences in all USA states except for Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas, and the Deep South. F. trachyphylla follows the Rio Grande drainage only through the first two New Mexico counties bordering Colorado.
