- NEED IN SITU PHOTOS. Smallflower fescue has been often vouchered from the Watershed, found in grasslands above the timberline of all mountain regions. Festuca minutiflora is difficult to distinguish from F. brachyphylla, and the herbarium record is probably not very dependable. The USA distribution runs down the Rocky Mountains from southwestern Montana to New Mexico. The species follows the Rio Grand drainage only from the Watershed (occurrences have been documented from the top of Stony pass) to central New Mexico.
