- NEED IN SITU PHOTOS. In the Watershed Earle's fescue has been vouchered only twice: near Cumbres pass (Conejos Co, 1936), and near Elwood pass (Rio Grande Co, 1996). Festuca earlei is found on tundra grassy slopes and subalpine forest openings. In the USA its ranges is restricted to very scattered locations in Utah, Colorado, Arizona, and New Mexico, where in the Rio Grande drainage it has been recorded half way down the state, no farther down stream. Note that the species is difficult to distinguish from other species in the Festuca ovina complex.
