NEED IN SITU PHOTOS. Wild oats is a noxious exotic that can invade cultivated oats (Avena sativa) and lower yields. Avena fatua has been vouchered three times in the Watershed: near Manassa (Conejos Co, 1915); one mile SE of Antonito (Conejos Co, 1990); and on McIntyre Ridge just north of the town of Saguache (1999). Avena fatua forms hybrids with cultivated oats. It can be found in disturbed areas and along ditches. Occurrences have been recorded from all USA states except those in the Deep South. It follows the Rio Grande drainage, spottily, through New Mexico and on down into Texas, spottily, two thirds of the way to the Gulf of Mexico.
