- NEED IN SITU PHOTOS. Meadow foxtail is an introduced grass sometimes planted in hay fields and used for irrigation and road stabilization in the mountains. It has naturalized on mesic slopes. In the Watershed, there are no vouchers from the east-side mountain ranges, and less than ten from the west-side. In 2003 Alopecurus pratensis was collected from the summit of North Peak (Rio Grande Co). The USA distribution is primarily the Western states (except Arizona), with a scattering of locations across the northern half of the nation. A. pratensis follows the Rio Grande drainage only two counties into New Mexico, no farther down stream
