- NEED IN SITU PHOTOS. In the Watershed, creeping bentgrass, an exotic, has naturalized in a wide variety of habitats: foothill rocky slopes, sand dunes, roadsides and stock areas, ditches, mesic subalpine meadows, etc. Agrostis stolonifera tolerates contaminated substrates (it is the most common turf for golf courses and putting greens). Its USA distribution duplicates that of Agrostis scabra—all Westerns states and across the northern third of the nation. It follows the Rio Grande drainage through New Mexico and on down to the Big Bend region of Texas.
