- NEED IN SITU PHOTOS. Porter's melica has been vouchered around eight times from the Watershed, but from only two locations: Wagon Wheel Gap to above Creede (Mineral Co), and two miles SSE of Ruybalid Lake (Conejos Co). Th habitat of Melica porteri, perennial and cool-season, is moist ravines, sandy banks, and hillsides in the montane. The USA distribution centers on Arizona, central and west Colorado, and New Mexico, where is follows the Rio Grande drainage from north to south and continues on down into the Big Bend region of Texas.
