- NEED IN SITU PHOTOS. Japanese brome, an Eurasian exotic that now has spread to every state of the USA, has been vouchered from only four locations in the Watershed: Old San Acacio (Costilla Co, 1986), the Great Sand Dunes NPP (Alamosa Co, 1988), a few miles east of the town of Alamosa (1999), and a few miles south of Fox Creek road (Conejos Co, 2004). The Valley floor may be at the limit of the elevation range of Bromus japonicus. The species likes ruderal sites such as road sides and railroad embankments. It follows the Rio Grande drainage through New Mexio and on down Texas about half way to the Gulf of Mexico.
