- NEED IN SITU PHOTOS. Sand blue stem has been vouchered only three times in the Watershed, all collected by Hobey Dixon from the Great Sand Dunes (1988, 1989, 1993). Other vouchers may exist at the Adams State herbarium, half of which has not yet been catalogued (Jan, 2025). The habitat is right for Andropogon hallii: sandy soil including dunes. Shaw (2008) indicates also Saguache and Costilla counties, so may have records from the northern Great Sand Dunes and south of the Dunes. The species is common in the Great plains and desert Southwest. It follows the Rio Grande drainage spottily through New Mexico down to the Big Bend country of Texas. Note that Allred et al. (2020) treat this taxon as Andropogon gerardi var. hallii.
