- NEED IN SITU PHOTOS. The only evidence for the presence of prairie cordgrass in the Watershed is Shaw (2008), who marks Saguache Co for the species. Of course that could be in or out of the Watershed. The usual habitat for Spartina pectinata is damp ground around ponds, sloughs, irrigation ditches, etc. The USA distribution for the species is every state except for the desert Southwest and the deep South. The center of the distribution (where it is very common) is the Great Plains, the northern Rockies, and the upper Midwest. There seems to be no record of S. pectinata in the Rio Grande drainage except for this ambiguous location in Saguache Co. Note that SEINet has a voucher, undated, labeled "Alamosa," which neither Ackerfield (2022) nor Shaw (2008) accept.
