- NEED IN SITU PHOTOS. In the Watershed, slimstem reedgrass—perennial and cool-season—is fairly common in wet areas of the Upper and Lower Basins. It also has been vouchered from the montane and subalpine—e.g., around Creede (Mineral Co) and Elwood Pass (Rio Grande Co). Calamagrostis stricta tolerates salt substrates and is collected from alkali and calcareous mesic habitats. The USA distribution is extensive, covering all northern states from the Pacific to the Atlantic, and all Southwestern states. However, the species follows the Rio Grande only a couple of counties into New Mexico.
