- NEED IN SITU PHOTOS. The only evidence that James's galleta grows in the Watershed is Shaw (2012) and BONAP (2025), which show Rio Grande Co (under the name Pleuraphis jamesii). There are no SEINet vouchers for the Watershed. In Colorado, Hilaria jamesii is recorded from both east and west of the Valley, and in New Mexico it follows the Rio Grande drainage from all the counties that border the Watershed down to the border with Mexico (and on down in Texas to the Big Bend region). So the presence of the species in Rio Grande Co is reasonable. The species should be looked for in Conejos and Costilla counties. The USA distribution covers the desert Southwest, the Intermountain region, the Southern Rockies, and all of New Mexico (although primarily in the north of the state, according to Allred et al. (2020).
