Comments
In the Watershed, spike muhly has been vouchered from only four locations, quite different in elevation: Terrace Reservoir (Conejos Co, 1975), near Red Mountain (Conejos Co, 1983), old Cochetopa pass (Saguache Co, 1971), and Oak Springs eight miles east of Villa Grove (Saguache Co, 1992). This diversity of habitat and elevation is characteristic of Muhlenbergia wrightii, which is perennial and warm-season. The center of the USA distribution covers only four states: Utah, Wyoming, Arizona, and New Mexico, where the species follows the Rio Grande drainage down through the state, with only one isolated location farther down stream in Terrell Co, Texas.
