- NEED IN SITU PHOTOS. Robert B. Shaw calls annual muhly "handsome, delicate, and diminutive." In the Watershed Muhlenbergia minutissima grows in the Basin, usually in damp conditions, on up to the montane, usually on open slopes with volcanic substrate. The species may be more common than the collecting record may show, due to its small size. Its USA distribution centers in Colorado, Arizona, and New Mexico, with very scattered locations in the other Western states. M. minutissima follows the Rio Grande drainage through New Mexico to the Big Bend region of Texas, no farther down stream.
