Comments
The presence of Muhlenbergia cuspidata rests on two dubious vouchers. One, dated 1918, is from the town of Alamosa (Alamosa Co), not the usual habitat for the species, which is dry slopes, rocky ledges, and sometimes sandy drainages. The second, dated 1956, is located in "Dry alkali flats, about 8500', above Cochetopa" (Saguache Co), far above the elevation range for the species. The USA distribution is centrally the northern Midwest, Great Plains, and Rockies. Two occurrences, however, come from Rio Arriba Co, New Mexico, beyond which Plains muhly does not follow the Rio Grande drainage.
