- NEED IN SITU PHOTOGRAPHS. Only one Watershed voucher exists for bristly wolftail, a plant found 3.5 miles ENE of Los Mogotes (Conejos Co, 1968). This location is reasonable, since Muhlenbergia alopecuroides is found in every county of New Mexico, including those bordering Conejos Co, Colorado. The species frequents dry rocky slopes and plains of Arizona, southern Utah, southeastern Colorado, and New Mexico, where it follows the Rio Grande drainage through the western tip of Texas but no farther down stream. The common name derives from the midribs of the blades which have whitish bristles.
