NEED IN SITU PHOTOS. Malabar spangletop has been collected by the Rio Grande where it flows through Alamosa Co (1936, 1983), once in the floodplain, once in alkaline. These records are accepted, and the voucher photographs leave little doubt about the determinations. But Diplachne fusca hasn't been collected from the Watershed since. The native species prefers pond and stream sides and alkaline soil. It has been recorded from every USA state, with concentrations in the desert Southwest and the Great Plains. It follows the Rio Grande drainage through New Mexico on down solidly to the Gulf of Mexico.
