Comments
Indian lovegrass has been vouchered eight times from the Watershed, all around or in the town of Alamosa (the 1896 specimen is labeled "Alamosa, Conejos Co"). It prefers open, weedy, ruderal habitat, and can be found around ditches and in gardens. The current photorecord (2025) is from ruderal ground, the edge of a turn-around off the road to a firing range between Del Norte and Monte Vista. Although documented from all USA states except for Utah, Eragrostis pilosa, annual and warm-season, is much less common than its closest relative, E. pectinacea. In New Mexico, it has been reported from only three Rio Grande drainage counties(Allred et al, 2020 could find no authenticated specimens), and it is absent from the drainage in Texas except where it flows into the Gulf of Mexico. The common name, by the way, is just an Englishing of the Greek genus name (Era + grostis = love + grass).
