- NEED IN SITU PHOTOS. The riparian, sand-loving teal lovegrass has been vouchered twice in the Watershed, once on the west bank of the Rio Grande 16 miles west of San Luis (Costilla Co, 1954) and once in the floodplain of the Rio Grande at Alamosa (Alamosa Co, 1983). BONAP adds Conejos Co. Eragrostis hypnoides is mat forming ("hypnoides" means like moss) and perhaps difficult to detect in over-grown sand banks, so perhaps under-reported. The USA distribution is scattered locations in all states. The species follows the Rio Grande drainage two-thirds of the way through New Mexico, and then has been also found at the south tip of Texas near the Gulf of Mexico. Note that Allred et al. (2020) warn that E. hypnoides is often found with rattlesnakes close by.
