- NEED IN SITU PHOTOS. Evidence for tumble windmill grass in the Watershed is slight, based on one voucher collected in 1992 from three miles south of the Old Mesita bridge (Costilla Co). Neither BONAP or Ackerfield (2022) accept this record, but apparently Shaw (2008) and Dixon (2015) do. The location and habitat makes sense. Allred et al. (2020) show a distribution for Chloris verticillata that covers nearly every county of New Mexico, including all the Rio Grande counties bordering Colorado. The USA distribution includes Arizona, New Mexico, and the central Great Plains down through Texas. The species follows the Rio Grande drainage through New Mexico and on down to the Big Bend region, with scattered observations to the Gulf of Mexico.
